Just in time for the Christmas shopping season, I recently ran across a store called Isle of Misfits in El Mirage. After poking my head inside to take a look, I knew it was worth featuring as this month's Strip Mall Surprise.
It’s your standard little strip mall but definitely a pleasant surprise once you head into Isle of Misfits! This store specializes in anime items and lots of kids, tweens, and teens would love the what they carry. Here’s a sampler that is by no means a complete listing:
- A whole wall of Pop figures
- Wall scrolls
- Accessories for backpacks and crocs
- Mugs and waterbottles
- Posters
- Boardgames and Advent Calendars
- Shirts and jackets (teen and adult sized)
- Books
- Pillows
- Asian snacks and candies
- Different styles of bags and backpacks
The toys, clothing, and snacks make perfect stocking stuffers or gifts this Christmas. Toys range from cute and cuddly to more action and mature audience oriented, so there is a wide range from which to select. Owner & manager, Aurora, says the Pop figurines, wallets, and the desk mats are 3 of their most popular items.
Since I was unfamiliar with the store’s layout, she kindly showed me where the items I was asking about were located. After some browsing, I purchased a key chain and some very cute music boxes.
Isle of Misfits is clean, organized, and well stocked. It’s easy to find right on Dysart Rd. by the intersection with the 60, too. They’ve been there about 4 years now and the family owns two more locations in Montana! All that said, I encourage you to swing by and see the shop for yourself.
